The Single Discourse –
If we fail to identify the single discourses, we will miss the message of Jesus. If we look at his sayings as separate arguments we must fail to understand the message. This book is not exaustive for it does not give all the examples of single discourses, just enough to show the information we should draw from the words, is quite different to the one we usually assume.
A single discourse is an address by Jesus to one group of people on one occasion. In these events Jesus strung many parables together, which are meant to be understood as part of a single argument. When the parables relate to each other in this way, the meaning changes and the words take on another force much more powerful than when they stand alone.
